In response to the alarming number of overweight and unfit children, teen and adults in Los Angeles County, the Department of Parks and Recreation implemented the “Healthy Parks” Program. Each site is working with its communities to develop Health and Wellness Programs that most reflect their diverse community needs.     • 2003 California Park & Recreation Society Award for Partnership/Collaboration with Antelope Valley Partners for Health

    • Board of Supervisors proclaims April 2004 as “Healthy Parks Month” in Los Angeles County at a special program held at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Special guests included Olympian Gail Devers, 6-time Mr. World Fitness, Franco Carlotto, County and City government officials, and other celebrities who are partnering to fight the obesity epidemic.

    • Board Proclaims April 2005 as “Healthy Parks Month” in Los Angeles County

    • 2005 Kaiser Healthy Eating/Active Living Grant at Jackie Robinson Park, Littlerock, CA

    • 7 Community Forums in Los Angeles County

    • Two Hearts N’ Parks Community Collaboration Workgroups

    • January 2004, testimony given to the State Assembly Health Committee on the Healthy Parks Program

    • Trained 75 recreational professionals outside of Los Angeles County on implementation of Healthy Parks in their organizations
