By Alba Ibarra
The Department of Parks and Recreation will host two events intended to educate, inspire and empower young girls to reach for the stars through workshops and various activities. Girls are encouraged to participate and take advantage of the opportunities these events will offer.
The first Girls Empowerment Conference will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Hacienda Heights Community Center, located at 1234 Valencia, Ave., Hacienda Heights. The program will consist of workshops on school and career options, self-esteem and will also include a self-defense class. The event is free, but space is limited. Those interested in participating should contact their local County park, or email Brian Ceballos at bceballos@.
The second Girls Empowerment Conference will be held in partnership with and at East Los Angeles College from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. The event will inspire girls to turn up the volume on their own voices, and believe in a life of possibilities by building confidence, exploring pathways to college, and living their dreams.
This event will offer interactive workshops, a college campus tour and networking. Girls ages 11-18 are encouraged to contact their local County park or call (323) 260-2360 or (661) 294-3508 to register. East Los Angeles College is located at 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez in Monterey Park.
The Department of Parks and Recreation strives to provide girls throughout Los Angeles County with meaningful experiences that will enhance their lives by providing them with useful tools and pathways for a prosperous future. These two empowering events will offer girls an opportunity to build confidence, further their education, and live their dreams to the fullest!
