BIG TUJUNGA WASH MITIGATION AREA

MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR

MARCH 27 THROUGH APRIL 13, 2017

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES WILL BE CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE BIG TUJUNGA WASH MITIGATION AREA BEGINNING ON MONDAY, MARCH 27 AND CONTINUING THROUGH THURSDAY APRIL 13, 2017.   MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES CONSIST OF  REMOVING WEEDS, AND REMOVING EXOTIC SPECIES OF PLANTS.  THE CREWS WILL GENERALLY BE WORKING WEEKDAYS BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7:00 AM AND 3:30 PM.  NO WORK WILL BE CONDUCTED ON THE WEEKENDS.

PLEASE BE WATCHFUL WHEN RIDING HORSES OR HIKING IN THE VICINITY OF WHERE THE CREWS ARE WORKING.  CREWS WILL BE CAUTIOUS WHEN HORSEBACK RIDERS OR HIKERS ARE IN THE VICINITY OF THEIR WORK AREA, BUT IT WOULD BE MOST HELPFUL IF YOU CAN AVOID THEIR WORK AREAS.  IF YOU DO COME UPON A CREW, PLEASE CALL OUT TO THEM IF THEY DO NOT SEE YOU SO THEY CAN STOP THEIR EQUIPMENT UNTIL THE EQUESTRIAN OR HIKERS PASS BY.

ECORP’S BIOLOGISTS WILL BE MONITORING THE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES TO ENSURE THAT SENSITIVE BIOLOGICAL RESOURCES ARE NOT DAMAGED DURING THE MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES.

BIG TUJUNGA WASH MITIGATION AREA MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES 

ARE NOW COMPLETE

The water lettuce herbicide application maintenance activities that were conducted at the Big Tujunga Wash Mitigation Area  on July 2 through July 5 are now complete.

BIG TUJUNGA WASH MITIGATION AREA

MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES SCHEDULED FOR JULY 2 THROUGH JULY 5, 2013

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES WILL BE CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE BIG TUJUNGA WASH MITIGATION AREA BEGINNING ON TUESDAY, JULY 2 AND CONTINUING THROUGH FRIDAY, JULY 5, 2013.  MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES CONSIST OF APPLYING WATER LETTUCE HERBICIDE TO THE TUJUNGA PONDS AND THE WATERWAYS IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT TO THE PONDS.

WATER LETTUCE IS AN INVASIVE PLANT THAT IS NORMALLY FOUND IN AQUARIUMS. IT IS NOT NATIVE TO THE BIG TUJUNGA WASH MITIGATION AREA. WATER LETTUCE NEEDS TO BE ACTIVELY CONTROLLED IN ORDER TO PREVENT INFESTATIONs IN THE WATERWAYS. WHEN A WATER LETTUCE INFESTATION OCCURS, THE WATERWAYS BECOME SUFFOCATED WITH THIS PLANT AND CAN RESULT IN NEGATIVE IMPACTS TO THE NATIVE PLANTS AND WILDLIFE THAT DEPEND ON THE WATERWAYS FOR SURVIVAL.

All trails are once again open and safe to use.  An additional maintenance event will be scheduled later this year.  An alert notification will be sent out prior to the start of those activities.

MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES SCHEDULES FOR JUNE 24 THROUGH JUNE 27, 2013

Please be aware that maintenance activities will be conducted throughout the Big Tujunga Wash Mitigation Area beginning on Monday, June 24 and continuing through Thursday, June 27, 2013.  Maintenance activities consist of clearing debris from trails, removing weeds, and removing exotic species of plants.

The crews will generally be working weekdays between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  No work will be 
conducted on the weekends.

The crews will begin in the Riparian Area and then work their way through the entire site, including the areas surrounding the ponds.

Please be watchful when riding horses or hiking in the vicinity of where the crews are working.  Crews will be cautious when horseback riders or hikers are in the vicinity of their work area, but it would be most helpful if you can avoid their work areas.  If you do come upon a crew, please call out to them, if they do not see you, so they can stop their equipment until the equestrian or hikers pass by.

Ecorp's biologists will be monitoring the maintenance activities to ensure that sensitive biological resources are not damaged during the maintenance activities.
