Due to the lack of availability of fish, the Adult Fishing Derby at Apollo Regional Community Park in Lancaster scheduled for March 4, 2017 has been cancelled.
However, the Youth Fishing Derby scheduled for May 6. 2017 at Apollo Park is still scheduled to take place.
Despite the recent rains, the drought in Southern California is causing fish hatcheries that supply Apollo Park Lake to operate at less than 10% of capacity, and some have even gone out of business.
We are working diligently to identify new hatcheries to supply Apollo Park Lake, but unlike many other lakes in Los Angeles County, this lake is not considered a natural body of water. As a result, the lake is not stocked with fish by the California Department of Fish and Game.
We understand how important Apollo Park and the Fishing Derbies are to the community, and we are currently doing everything we can to make sure we can stock the lake with fish in the near future.
