Just north of Six Flags Magic Mountain along Interstate 5 lies the community of Castaic. Castaic area residents have provided the Department of Parks and Recreation with positive feedback regarding the presence of the Castaic Regional Sports Complex and Castaic Aquatic Center.

The Castaic Regional Sports Complex sits on 51 acres of scenic property and is designed to meet specific needs voiced by the community at a series of public planning meetings prior to its construction. The complex offers a 14,500-square-foot gymnasium, basketball/volleyball courts, retractable backboards, an electronic scoreboard, a public address system, spectator seating, locker/shower rooms, community rooms, a kitchen, a lobby and an office for park staff.

Department Deputy Director Jon Gargan explains the value of a park like this.

“The Castaic Regional Sports Complex and Aquatics Center is the athletic hub of the northwest section of Los Angeles County,” he said. “The 50+ acre site allows families to experience numerous activities on our sports fields, outdoor courts, par course, gymnasium/community center, swimming pools, playgrounds and a future skate park. We will continue to explore opportunities to expand programs and services to the Castaic community.”

The Aquatic Center is the second half of the facilities at the Castaic Regional Sports Complex. It includes a 4,435-square-foot recreation swimming pool with an integrated splash pad, as well as a 12,500-square-foot pool building with changing rooms, showers, restrooms, staff offices,  storage, utility and mechanical rooms. In November 2016, there was the addition of a 6,425-square-foot Olympic pool featuring 11 lanes end-to-end and 22 lanes side-to-side.

Funding for this complex was provided by the Los Angeles County Fifth Supervisorial District.

This Aquatic Center is a big part of the community, and Castaic resident and frequent user Pearl Kemp has seen the positive effect it has had on area residents.

“This Aquatic Center is lifesaving, especially for the young people,” she noted. “My grandson has used this pool and has now become a junior lifeguard at Castaic Lake. For us seniors, this Aquatic Center has opened up a whole new world. Also, the lifeguards here have inspired us and helped us realize that we’re not over the hill, and that we can have a healthy and meaningful life.”

The Castaic Regional Sports Complex is located at 31230 N. Castaic Road, Castaic. The Aquatics Complex 31350 N. Castaic Road, Castaic.
