Thousands are expected to enjoy legendary musicians, the visually-stunning artwalk and breathtaking fireworks spectacular that will highlight the free Rock the 28th celebration set for Sunday, June 28 at East L.A. Civic Center.
Presented by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis and the Department of Parks and Recreation, Rock the 28th is the first installment of ArtsFest 2015 — a summer-long slate of free special events at the cultural destination located at 4801 E. Third Street, Los Angeles, CA 90022.
Rock the 28th festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m., with a tribute to local veterans, followed by a 5:25 p.m. performance by Louie Cruz Beltran, well-known for his danceable blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, pop and R&B influences. At 7:15 p.m., legendary bandleader and conguero Poncho Sanchez will take the stage with his Grammy-winning Latin Jazz sound.
Immediately following Sanchez’s performance, a 9:15 p.m. fireworks spectacular is sure to draw plenty of ooohs and aaahs with a colorful display by Juegos Pirotécnicos — just in time for the 4th of July holiday!
