PROJECT TITLE: San Gabriel Valley Aquatics Center

PROJECT LOCATION: The proposed project would be located on a 3.1-acre site on the Temple Academy School campus (a public-school site owned and operated by the Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District), located at 635 California Avenue, within an unincorporated area of the County of Los Angeles immediately east of the City of La Puente.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:  The County of Los Angeles proposes to construct and operate (Department of Parks and Recreation) a publicly accessible aquatics center on 3.1-acre site that currently includes a parking lot and grassy playing field within the overall 9.36-acre campus of the (no longer operational as of June 2021) Temple Academy public elementary school (grades K-6). The project would include two swimming pools (i.e., 55-yard by 25-yard competitive pool, and 27-yard by 25-yard practice pool), an approximately 10,800-square foot pool building, and additional facilities including a parking lot, spectator bleachers, and electronic scoreboard as well as a new one-acre park that would include an exercise area, barbeque area, shade structure, potential pollinator garden, plaza and outdoor amphitheater. The new park would provide access to the adjacent County-owned and operated Allen J. Martin Park. The primary objective of the proposed project is to construct a joint-use aquatics facility available for both student and public use. The community, the County of Los Angeles, and the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District (HLPUSD) maintain a desire for a publicly accessible swimming facility and community park at this location. The swimming pool improvements are designed to meet health and safety regulations related to operation and maintenance of swimming pools.
