Fishing season is back at Alondra Community Regional Park, 3850 Manhattan Beach Blvd., Lawndale, marked by the kick-off of the annual Fishing Derby for kids age 15 and under scheduled for Saturday, May 12, starting with registration at 7:30 a.m.
The lake will be stocked with more than 3,000 pounds of catfish thanks to sponsors including the City of Gardena, Kiwanis International and Sport Fish Restoration.
Attendees will have access to learning stations provided by the California State Fish and Game Commission. These stations will offer useful information on topics that include the biology of fish, fish species, as well as safety measures when using fishing poles.
Free bait and a limited number of fishing poles will be available for use on a first-come, first-served basis. Youth participants will also be served a free lunch and can look forward to an exciting day of raffle prizes.
The Fishing Derby will conclude at Noon, after which the lake will reopen to persons age 16 and older.
