The County of Los Angeles has adopted rules and regulations for the use of parks in order to protect park property and facilities, protect public safety and health, and balance competing uses and liabilities. LA County Parks supervises park use, determines policy, devises rules for use of parks, and determines the kind and extent of recreational activities.
The Department requires a permit for organized activities including but not limited to:
- Organized group activity
- Recreation Activities
- Sporting events
- Physical Activity and Sports Programs
- Community Events & Special Events
- Picnics
- Camps
- Educational Classes
- Filming Permits
- Family Events
- Exclusive Use
- Activity/Program is scheduled outside of the park’s staffing and operating hours
- The use of a sports field or facility by any person, club, team, league, or organization for practices, games, or tournaments, including recurring or regularly scheduled events.
- Any exclusive use or reservation.
Further, the Department may post signage with additional rules and regulations for particular areas and parks. Please check and reference on-site signage for additional restrictions, rules, and permit requirements.

The permit must be applied for no earlier than six months, and no later than 3 weeks, before the desired event date(s). However, submitting a permit application does not guarantee your date(s) or location(s).
