Special Events are small or larger scale events on LA County Parks to provide recreational, cultural, educational, and health benefits to the local community and the residents of County of Los Angeles.
Special Events could be organized by individuals, commercial organizations, non-profits, local cities, or other county departments, and include but are not limited to concerts, festivals and fairs, night markets, trade shows, conventions, cultural events, celebrations, fundraisers, large scale sports events, marathons, triathlons, obstacle races, adventure races, bicycle races, circus, and carnivals. The event may feature, under proper permits only, alcohol, food, live entertainment, arts/crafts and merchandise / services for sale. The event may be free to public or may be ticketed with an entrance fee.
Different Los Angeles County permits may be needed, depending on specific parameters of the Special Event, from Dept. of Regional Planning – Building & Safety, Sheriff’s Dept., Dept. of Public Health, California Dept. of Alcoholic Beverage Control, Treasurer & Tax Collector, Local Public Transportation Authority, Cal Trans and/or California Highway Patrol.
Smaller Events may just require a Facility Use Permit P&R Form 82 whereas Larger Special Events may need Facility Use Agreements and/or other agreements with the LA County Department of Parks and Recreation, if the event:
- starts and/or ends after normal park hours; or
- is expected to attract a large attendance (100+); or
- is a paid event; or
- requires temporary structures such as a stage, tents, stalls, etc.; or
- features live entertainment with amplified sound; or
- includes food and alcohol to be prepared- and sold on-site

– Objective of the Event
– Estimated Attendance
– Alcohol served/sold
– Open to Public vs. Invite only
– Attendance Fee or Free
– Marketing materials for the event
– Set-up and take down requirements
