Our Arboreta and Botanic Gardens are the perfect places to celebrate Mother’s Day!
The Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia, is a beautiful place to visit on Mother’s Day this Sunday, May 13. First, treat mom to a Mother’s Day gift membership that includes a tote bag, special card and welcome packet. She’ll enjoy unlimited garden visits all year, classes, concerts and member discounts.
You can take mom on a stroll through the Rose Garden, see the Geranium Show and enjoy breakfast or lunch specials at the Peacock Café. Tickets cost $9 for adults; students with ID and seniors age 62 and older: $6; and children ages 5-12: $4. Children under age 5 and members pay no fee.
Mothers will enjoy a peaceful walk at Descanso Gardens, 1418 Descanso Dr., La Canada Flintridge, on Saturday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to Noon. The docent-guided walk will highlight points of seasonal interest. Walks begin at the Center Circle and are included in the price of regular admission. No reservation is necessary. Celebrate mom at South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Blvd., Palos Verdes Peninsula, with a picnic in the Upper Meadow followed by a concert with the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band featuring “Magnificent Melodies.”
The program features the best in concert band music, including works by Eric Whitacre, Frank Ticheli, Leonard Bernstein and Arturo Márquez. Come for the flowers, stay for the music! Purchase tickets in advance online or at the Visitor Services Center. Adults: $9; students with ID and seniors age 62 and older: $6; children ages 5-12: $4; and children under age 5 and members: free.
A tour of the Virginia Robinson Gardens is another great option to spend quality time with mom. The tour includes a walk through the famous mansion’s buildings, and the historical garden paradise. Tours are available by reservation only: (310) 276-5367. Tickets for adults are $11; students with ID and seniors age 62 and older: $6; children ages 5-12: $4; and children under age 5: free.
