The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation (LA County Parks) continues to reopen certain amenities and park areas, based on the reopening protocols for the County of Los Angeles and health guidelines to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Adherence to health guidelines and precautions is critical to safely operate our facilities and parks. As its top priority, LA County Parks is taking precautions to ensure the health and safety of park guests, visitors, team members and the community.
Specific restrictions and reopening guidelines are required based on the type of amenity, in accordance with the health officer order. For additional information on COVID-19 and the health order, please visit the LA County Public Health website.

Reopening Protocols for Playgrounds from LA County Public Health
- Everyone 2 yrs of age or older should wear a face covering at all times while at the playground
- Stay home if you are sick with fever, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
- No eating or drinking is allowed at the playground, to ensure face masks are worn at all times.
- Adults or Caregivers are required to monitor their children and ensure that they maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others that are not part of their household.
- Wash or sanitize hands before and after your visit to the playground.
- Visits should be limited to 30 minutes when others are in the playground.
- Elderly individuals and those persons with underlying medical conditions should be reminded to avoid the playground when others are present.

- Stay home if you are sick with a cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever or chills or if you are currently under quarantine or isolation.
- Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth while you are here.
- Stay 6 feet away from other customers and staff as much as possible.
- Clean your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer after contact with frequently touched surfaces.
- All retail areas must comply with public health retail establishment protocols.
- Instructional and informational signage is posted throughout the facility regarding infection control, physical distancing and the use of face coverings.
- Visitors arriving at the establishment are reminded to wear a face covering at all times (except while eating or drinking, if applicable) while in the establishment or on the grounds of the establishment. This applies to all adults and to children 2 years of age and older. Only individuals who have been instructed not to wear a face covering by their medical provider are exempt from wearing one.
- Symptom checks are conducted before visitors may enter the facility. Checks must include a check-in concerning cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing and fever or chills.
- Payment of green fees is done from an existing outdoor facing starter window or from a check-in table inside the facility. Six-foot social distancing markings are installed to let customers know where to wait to pay.
- Reservations are required and golfers are encouraged to pre-pay using debit/credit cards at the time of reservation.
- Payment at the golf course is done by gift, debit or credit card only.
- Markings or delineators are set up to create a six-foot barrier around the golf starter area in order to minimize close contact between employees and the public.
- Hand sanitizer, soap and water, or effective disinfectant/wipes is made available to golfers at or near each entrance to the facility at any beverage carts and food stations/facilities and restrooms.
- Tee time intervals are no less than 10 minutes apart.
- Tee times are limited to no more than 4 players who need not be from the same household or living unit). Each group must be stable (i.e., persons may not substitute in or out of the group)
- Players are not allowed to arrive on any tee box until the previous group has left the teeing ground.
- Score cards and pencils are handed out when requested only, and not placed on the counter.
- Rental clubs are not made available.
- Public counters and service windows are frequently sanitized.
- Club racks are removed or cordoned off.
- Trash cans are touchless. Lids have been removed if present.
- Golf carts must be single rider only, but members of the same household can share a cart.
- Golfers are not allowed to touch, remove or adjust the flag stick during their round.
- Golf carts, riding and hand carts, are sanitized before and after each use.
- All golf course restrooms are serviced and disinfected frequently. Doors are propped open when possible to minimize touching of door
- Since bunker rakes are not available, golfers are instructed, as per USGA COVID 19 Rules, to “try their best to smooth the disturbed area with a foot or a golf club after playing their ball.”
- Private lessons are allowed using proper social distancing techniques. Both the students and instructor will be required to wear face masks
- All participant information normally distributed and collected during registration shall be done electronically prior to arrival. Encourage participants to print out themselves or plan to use in digital form.
- Participants and coaches are required to remain at least 6-feet from one another and must refrain from physical contact with each other such as handshakes, embraces, high fives and fist bumps.
- Coaches and participants shall wear face coverings for the entirety of class.
- Participant to coach ratio shall not exceed 6:1
- Coaches shall not share equipment with other coaches or participants without such equipment being sanitized.
- All equipment issued to participants shall have been sanitized. In addition, said golf equipment shall remain with the student throughout the class and shall not be shared.
- Participants shall not handle range baskets or shag bags at any time.
- Coaches will remain with their assigned group throughout the session. Participants shall not rotate to different coaches during a given session.
- Consecutive sessions shall be staggered to allow staff time to disinfect equipment and to minimize gathering and cross traffic of student beginning and ending sessions.
- No group play or tournaments are allowed.
- No congregating or tailgating in the parking lot is allowed.
- Practice putting and chipping green remain closed.
- No congregating is allowed on the driving range. If necessary, a 1-hour maximum time
limit for use of the driving range will be implemented. - No golfer is allowed to stand behind a hitting station while waiting for another golfer to
finish. - Driving range mat centerlines can be 8 feet apart as long as areas for left handed
players are grouped together and separated from those for right handed players by at
least 12 feet. Driving ranges with fixed partitions use only every other stall. - Range baskets are regularly sanitized.
- Range balls are washed after each use.
- Ball dispensing machines are frequently sanitized.
- Rakes, ball washers, benches, divot boxes and sand bottles have been removed in order to
eliminate common touch points. - Golf course putting green cups are installed in a ‘touchless’ manner. Foam or another
material may be inserted. At no time is the entire ball resting below the putting surface. - Drinking fountains and water coolers have been removed or covered.
- Trail users are encouraged to check the Trails LA County website prior to visiting trails for updated lists of open trails, safety guidelines, notifications, and up-to-date information. The trail’s website offers information for over 600 miles of trails, including trails managed by partner agencies that residents can visit and experience the wonderful outdoors.
- Download the Trails LA County mobile app before heading out for real-time updates and offline location tracking and trail information to explore the extensive trail network within our diverse landscapes across the County.
- Do not visit public trails and trailheads if feeling sick and/or exhibiting any symptoms of illness.
- Follow all posted regulations at trails and trailhead facilities.
- Physical distancing of 6 feet always required. No group gathering allowed on trails or in the parking lot.
- Limit visits to members of your household only.
- Everyone needs a face covering at the trailhead/parking lots and on any trails where there are other groups of people nearby.
- Infants and children under the age of 2 should not wear cloth face coverings. Those between the ages of 2 and 8 should use them but under adult supervision to ensure that the child can breathe safely and avoid choking or suffocation. Children with breathing problems should not wear a face covering.
- Consider avoiding popular locations that are prone to crowds.
- Alert trail users of your presence and step aside to let others pass.
- Bring water, hand sanitizer, and/or disinfecting wipes to wash or sanitize hands frequently.
- Practice the leave-no-trace principles on the trails to protect park staff and wildlife, (take your trash)
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet must be maintained at all times.
- Only singles play will be permitted.
- Each participant must bring their own bucket of balls with their initials on each ball. Participants will only be permitted to handle their own tennis and pickleball balls.
- Participants will be required to wear face coverings at all times except during play.
- Bring water and hand sanitizer or disinfecting wipes to wash and sanitize hands frequently.
- A maximum of one-hour play will be allowed on heavy traffic days.
- Private lessons are allowed using proper physical distancing techniques. Both the student and instructor will be required to wear face coverings. No lessons involving two (2) or more tennis or pickleball students are allowed.
- Payment of any fees shall be done on-line and/or utilizing an outdoor facing window or door.
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet is required at all times.
- Face coverings are required.
- Facility operator and staff shall wear a face covering and gloves at all times.
- Only single and pair games allowed. Maximum number of 16 participants allowed.
- Each participant or team will have its own jack and will be placed on the field using a foot. Household are encouraged to play together.
- Bowlers are to use their own equipment to participate in games and practices. No exchanging of equipment will be permitted.
- Use of every other rink is allowed. No use of adjacent rinks allowed.
- Bowlers must stay on opposite sides of the center line.
- No spectators or visitors allowed. No gathering of groups.
- Use of rakes, scoreboards, umbrellas or common club equipment will not be allowed.
- Each participant will use their own set of bowls and must bring their own equipment.
- Green Reservations for play or practices are mandated and can be made by calling the park.
- No pick-up games or walk up games.
- Solo Practices will be permitted and have a limit of one hour.
- Games will have a limit of two hours.
- No use of lockers will be permitted and any personal item in lockers need to be removed.
- Participants should wash their hands before and after visiting the lawn bowling area, avoid touching their faces, and cover their coughs and sneezes.
- Participants should bring their own hand sanitizer to use before and after use of equipment.
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet is required at all times.
- Face coverings are required at all times while in the common areas, including, without limitation, parking lots and stables.
- Face masks are not required during riding so long as physical distancing is maintained.Facility operator and staff shall wear a face covering and gloves at all times.
- Rides (Horse string) will be a single file and a maximum of four (4) riders at a time while practicing physical distancing. This is for trail use only.
- Private horse lessons will require proper physical distancing, and both instructors and students must wear face coverings at all times.
- Lessons shall be a maximum of two (2) participants at a time and conducted in a round pen. Round pen must be large enough to allow for physical distancing during lessons.
- Only one (1) horse and one (1) boarder will be allowed within the wash racks at a time.
- All boarders must use their own wash rack supplies, and hoses will be sanitized regularly.
- Payment of any fees shall be done on-line and/or utilizing an outdoor facing window or door.
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet is required at all times.
- Face coverings will be required at all times.
- Facility operator shall ensure that the entrance to the BMX Areas and/or Bike Park is single file – one participant at a time allowing for a six (6)-foot distance between participants.
- No rentals will be offered.
- Private lessons will be allowed while practicing physical distancing. There shall be no lessons involving more than two (2) people.
- No tournaments will be allowed.
- Doors, entrances, and/or gates shall remain open during regular operational hours.
- Payment of fees shall be done on-line and/or utilizing an outdoor facing window or door.
- Food and beverage will be grab and go and will follow the Los Angeles County Public Health Order and protocols.
- Face coverings will be required at all times.
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet is required at all times.
- Facility operator shall place delineators at sports stations to create a six (6)-foot distance between participants.
- No rentals will be offered.
- Safety equipment (such as foam earplugs, safety glasses) shall be disposable.
- Private lessons will be allowed while practicing physical distancing. There shall be no lessons involving more than two (2) people.
- No tournaments will be allowed.
- Doors, entrances, and/or gates shall remain open during normal operational hours.
- Payment of fees shall be done on-line and/or utilizing an outdoor facing window or door.
- Food and beverage will be grab and go and will follow the Los Angeles County Public Health Order and protocols.
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet is required at all times.
- Face coverings are required at all times.
- No group gatherings are allowed.
- No tournaments are allowed.
- Participants may only touch and handle their own model airplanes and gear.
- Face coverings are required at all times.
- Physical distancing of six (6) feet is required at all times.
- Volunteer events will not be allowed to avoid group gatherings.
- Maximum number of participants in the garden at one time shall be determined by the size of the community garden and the number of plots.
- Bring hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes, or a Ziploc bag with soapy water and a washcloth. Wash your hands before and after you go to the garden.
- Gloves are required while conducting gardening, including while handling tools and equipment.
- Remove all personal items and trash before leaving the garden.
- Physical distance of (6) feet must be maintained at all times.
- Face coverings are always required unless participants are participating in moderate to vigorous physical activity.
- Rentals to single riders only, except to members of the same household.
- Rental times/reservations should be staggered in intervals of 10 minutes to ensure physical distancing and allow for time to disinfect equipment.
- Hand sanitizer, soap and water, or effective disinfectant will be available to the public at or near the entrance of the facility, at checkout counters, and anywhere else where participants have direct interactions.
- Food and beverage will be grab and go and will follow the Los Angeles County Public Health Order and protocols.
- Group gatherings are prohibited.
- Rental equipment and safety equipment will be disinfected after each participant.
- Participants are asked to leave if not complying with guidelines.
In compliance with the State’s Regional Stay at Home Order campgrounds, RV parks and cabin rentals must not allow for overnight stays, effective December 6, 2020 until further notice.
- All participants must adhere to physical distancing requirements of 6 feet.
- All participants are required to wear face coverings except while in the water.
- Gatherings of single household units of 10 or less may be permitted. Groups larger than 10 persons are not allowed.
- Balls, floats (other than U.S. Coast Guard approved personal floatation devices), and toys shall not be permitted in the water.
- Tents of any kind, including unenclosed sun shelters and umbrellas, are prohibited on the swim beach.
- Restrooms will be sanitized regularly.
- Water fountains shall be available to fill water bottles only.
- Participants will be asked to leave if not complying with these restrictions.
- Participant to staff ratios is 12:1, unless otherwise specified by the Public Health Department.
- Participants must wear a face covering at all times, except when eating or taking breaks.
- Participants must remain in their assigned program group throughout the day.
- All groups must remain six feet apart to prevent groups from mixing.
- Each group will need to remain in separate indoor/outdoor areas, rotating areas only if the area is cleaned, sanitized and disinfected prior to a new group using it.
- Participants must wash or use hand sanitizer to clean their hands every 60 minutes and between programs and activities.
- Camp and program staff must be trained in COVID-19 operating guidelines and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as face covering, protective eye wear (when conducting health screenings), and gloves.
- Camp areas, equipment and games should be cleaned, sanitized, and disinfected frequently, at the beginning of the day, end of the day, and when used by different participants.
- Physical distancing (6 feet apart) required.
- Face masks are required for individuals over 2 years old while around the Splash Pad area. Face mask not required while in Splash Pad.
- Do not enter the Splash Pad if they are exhibiting symptoms, or who has knowingly been in contact with a suspected positive case of Covid-19 within the past 14 days.
- No water toys will be allowed at any time in or around the Splash area.
- Only Splash Pad users are allowed in Splash Pad, no spectators. Congregating will not be allowed around the Splash Pad area.
- Splash Pad usage may be limited to 30 minutes per person; time limit may be reduced or increased based on demand.
- Patrons not following Splash Pad rules and guidelines will be asked to leave.

Re-Opening Plan for Sports Fields
This re-opening plan applies to sports fields. The following restrictions, maintenance protocols, and monitoring protocols are required to ensure compliance with COVID-19 guidelines:
Restrictions:
- Guardians/Parents, visitors and spectators must observe physical distancing of six (6) feet between one another at all times except for members of their household unit.
- Face coverings must be worn at all times, except when swimming, showering, eating or drinking.
- Coaches and players must observe physical distancing at all times.
- Spectator benches/bleachers will be cordoned off. Spectators may bring their own chairs, to be placed six (6) feet apart unless they are members of a household unit.
- Each player must use their own equipment.
- Shared practice balls should be sanitized and swapped out regularly.
- No water or sport drink jugs allowed. Individual drink bottles are encouraged.
- The use of sunflower seeds, dip or any spit inducing items is prohibited.
- High-fives, fist-bumps or other celebratory touching is prohibited.
- Staggered field use and field times to ensure physical distancing is encouraged.
- Concessions should be “grab & go” and meet all County Health guidelines. Payment should be made by payment card if possible. If cash is used, it should be done at an outward facing window/door. Barriers between staff and patrons recommended.
- All organized sports groups should have an adopted practice and procedures that adhere to County Health orders and be made part of the rental or use agreement and be approved by the governing entity.
Maintenance Protocols:
- Benches/bleachers will be cordoned off or removed to prohibit gatherings.
- Water fountains will be available for water bottle fill-up only.
- Routine cleaning of common areas.
- Any shared field equipment should be sanitized between uses.
- Informational and instructional signage will be posted throughout each facility to educate guests of the rules.
- Restrooms will be sanitized regularly.
Monitoring Protocols:
- Staff/official volunteers will be used to monitor compliance.
- Participants will be asked to leave the facility immediately after play.
- Those not adhering to the adopted guidelines will be asked to leave.
