Join us for “Let’s Play Outside” with more than 200 FREE outdoor activities and experiences available countywide the entire month of July!

It’s the 80th Anniversary of the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, and we want to celebrate by inspiring kids to discover the joy of the outdoors with these adventures: Play Outdoors, Explore Nature, Splash In A Pool, Go Fishing, Follow A Trail, Camp Under The Stars, Go Boating On A Lake, Connect With Wildlife, and Plant A Seed.

Play Outdoors

Get outside for fun activities at your nearby county park for many ages/interests/abilities: build a kite, test your skills at bocce or cornhole, improve sports skills, and more! See schedule below for details.

Get up close and discover nature’s animals, plants, geology and other cool wonders our Nature Centers.

Splash In A Pool

Dive in and stay cool this summer with afternoon swim days at pools countywide.

Go Fishing

Grab a rod and hook a fish! Kids age 13 and younger can use a rod for free, learn fishing basics, and test their angler skills at our county lakes.

Follow A Trail

Pack your water and sunscreen, then lace up your hiking shoes for family-friendly hikes. Learn hiker tips and etiquette, and hit the trail on our guided tours.

Camp Under The Stars

Pitch your tent, and sleep under the moon and stars at our overnight family campouts. Special programs and fun after the sun goes down.

Ride A Bike

Hop on a bike for kid-friendly rides! No bicycle – or don’t know how to ride? We have free bikes and cycle coaches to get you on the bike path.

Go Boating In A Lake

Launch your ride with free kayaks or pedal boats at county lakes! Learn boating basics and safety just bring plenty of paddle spirit!

Connect With Wildlife

Furry, winged, scaly, and finned – explore a world of animals at our interpretive wildlife programs. Live animals, campfire tales, and habitat adventures – great for all ages.

Plant A Seed

Kids age 13 and younger will see their gardening skills bloom at our Parks and Botanical Garden workshops. They will plant seeds and experience the joy of growing a plant.
