In 2010, the Department installed solar panels on several facility rooftops at Eugene A. Obregon Park. The project was conceived as a part of Eugene Obregon Park Green Pilot Project in 2009, to introduce various energy and natural resource conservation measures designed to create a model for a sustainable park. The solar panels were installed when the Department received a grant from the County of Los Angeles Quality and Productivity Commission, and secured additional funding from the First Supervisorial District. The solar panels are projected to reduce electricity consumption by more than 20 % while reducing CO2 emissions by 40,000 lbs. per year. As one of the first solar panel projects implemented in the County’s community parks, the Eugene A. Obregon Park solar project raises public awareness of the importance for achieving sustainability through the use of a renewable energy resource.
Project Scope
The project scope included installation of approximately 6,000 s.f. solar panels on the roofs of the gymnasium and pool house building.
