Invasive Mussel Inspections at Castaic Lake and Pyramid Lake

Effective Saturday, May 22nd, new boating protocols will be implemented at Castaic Lake and Pyramid Lake due to the presence of invasive mussels.

  • Vessel Invasive Mussel Inspections upon arrival are discontinued:
    As both lakes are now considered infested with invasive mussels, mandatory entrance inspections will no longer be required. Inspections for required safety equipment will continue.
  • All vessels are required to be inspected upon exit:
    Boaters shall remove drain plugs prior to entering the exit inspection and ensure boats and trailers are free of mud, grass, or other debris.
  • Exit seals will continue to be provided:
    Exit seals may still be issued upon completion of the exit inspection; however, because Castaic Lake and Pyramid Lake are now considered infested with invasive mussels, other water bodies may not accept seals issued from these lakes. Vessels may still be subject to reinspection, mandatory dry-out periods, or decontamination procedures at other locations.
  • Boaters are encouraged to check requirements before traveling:
    Other lakes and reservoirs may have different quarantine, dry-out, or decontamination requirements. Contact the individual water body prior to your visit to confirm current boating regulations and inspection procedures.

LIFEGUARD PROGRAMS

Castaic Lake’s Junior Lake Lifeguard Program provides a challenging and exciting open water environment which promotes an active and responsible lifestyle for participants ages 9-17. Lifeguard staff serve as mentors and impart their experience by leading hands-on activities. Youth are introduced to water safety, athleticism, teamwork and potential careers in aquatics.
