BOATING AREAS

County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation offers visitors designated areas and times for boating and personal water craft (P.W.C.). Come explore or just chill out at one of our three lakes. It is important that you check with your local lake and learn about boating rules, regulations and procedures regarding motorized and non-motorized boat use, launching areas and rules regulations and safety procedures, before your visit. Please note that Whittier Narrows Recreational Area offers pedal boat rentals only.

BOATING INSTRUCTION SAFETY

Located at Castaic Lake State Recreation Area, the 10,000 square foot Boating Instruction and Safety Center (BISC) was built in 2007 and is run by California State University Northridge (CSUN). The BISC operates as an instruction and small conference center for CSUN faculty, students, and program participants.

BOAT LAUNCHES

Bring your boat and enjoy a day on the lake! Designated boating areas have boat launches available for public use. Each lake has specific boat launch rules, regulations and requirements, so please call your favorite lake for more information before your visit.

BOAT RENTALS

Come explore our beautiful lakes by boat! Some Los Angeles County lakes provide boat rentals and are available for visitors with a valid driver’s license. Call your local lake for details regarding rental fees and requirements, rules and regulations.

KAYAKING

Enjoy kayaking at one of Los Angeles County’s three recreational lakes and try a moonlight kayak for even more fun! Check with your local County of Los Angeles Lake for boat information about designated areas, times and classes, rules and regulations.  Personal Flotation Devices (P.F.D.) must be onboard, of proper size and readily accessible at all times.  Children 12 years of age and younger must wear a Coast Guard approved (P.F.D.).  Also, all kayaks are subject to Quagga/Zebra Mussel inspections, which is strictly enforced.
